A bad year for Santorini (2009)

It looks like this summer there is not much going on on our island.Still the visitors like it better because it is not as crowded as it was last year.

Hoteliers are giving a reservation decrease from 10%  to 40 %.The luxury hotels are making very good deals and special offers to keep up…on the other hand the small medium priced hotels and apartments are struggling to survive.

In our main village ,Fira , the Cafes and restaurants are getting about the same customers but with a 40% decrease on the bill. This economical crisis has affected Santorini as well this year.

We all need to adapt to the new wave…What that means?

1.Better service

2.Better prices – value for money

3.More infrastructure (marinas )

4.More Ferries and direct flights to our island.

That are just a few thoughts that come to my mind right now.

The 75% of first time Santorini visitors wont come back in the future, because they where mistreated or charged far more than they should. One visitor who leaves Santorini unsatisfied translates to 10-15 people not ever coming to Santorini (cyrcle of friends and colleques that the visitor will tell what the trip was like…)

All good news today…

Oooh, sounds a bit gloomy. We’re coming to Santorini for our first visit this summer – where are the best (and most reasonably-priced) restaurants and bars? I’m sure that not everyone on Santorini wants to rip the tourists off?

Dear Ian thank you for responding to my post.
Well………of course not everybody will rip tourists off.
      Here are recommendations:
      Hotels in Fira :
Aressana (great hotel but no view, located in the center of Fira capital)
Pelikan Hotel (low budget but again in the center of Fira.)

      Hotels in Perissa:
      Meltemi hotel
      Atlantis beach hotel
Meltemi suites (they are all very good and not expensive)

      Hotels in Oia:
Anemoessa ( nice small hotel in the traditional village of Finikia)
En Plo (locate on the sea side road very near to Oia ,you are going to need a car or bike though)
Aspa apartments (right next to my wine store…very nice with some view to the Caldera normall prices)
Flower apartments (nice and not expensive)
Anemomilos hotel ( good for families)

      Restaurants:
      Oia:
Anemelia restaurant in sea side road in Oia
Ochre wine restaurant (the place to enjoy great wines – lounge type)
      1800 the gourmet (expensive)
Petros (for fish that is fresh)
Katina in Ammoudi bay (fish tavern)

      Fira:
      1500 (great but …Expensive)
Archipelagos (great food normal prices and great view)
      Koukoumavlos (gourmet)

      Kamari:
Nikteri ( maybe the best restaurant in Kamari)

      There are more…
